In class, we had an exam. It was on "Allegory of the Trees" and included a 20 point essay, 6 points for symbolism, and 15 points for a Venn Diagram. Then we listened to "Trees" by Rush and discussed tone and theme and how tone affects the way we think about the theme of a piece. We discussed that lyrics are still meaningful even when we reject the author (Death of the Author).We did the "Tip of the Iceberg" activity where we discussed "keys" (applicable to trees+ power, knowledge = light), and pens/pencils being the "sum total of written human experience."
