THS English Department Policy

ENGLISH DEPARTMENT POLICIES APPLICABLE TO ALL CLASSES
1. Students are expected and required to type formal papers and use MLA style guidelines for citation and formatting.

2. Turning in work late, if an instructor agrees to accept it, will result in a reduction to the grade for the late assignment; teachers may make exceptions in special cases (e.g., severe illness).

3. Neither technological (e.g., computer, printer) nor organic (e.g., pets, siblings) problems or malfunctions excuse students from the responsibility of having assignments completed and ready to turn in on schedule. If the work is not completed on time according to the instructor's verbal or written directions, the work will be considered late.

4. Instructors may return ungraded work to students that does not meet minimum standards of criteria of quality (e.g., legibility) or which does not conform to the assignment guidelines. Teachers may at their option mark the work either "Not Completed as Assigned - Revise and Resubmit" and consider the resubmitted work late, or the instructor may simply enter a zero for that assignment's grade.

5. Plagiarism (cheating) will not be tolerated and may result in a failing grade for the course in addition to other penalties. The student handbook defines plagiarism and its consequences.
