Monday, Root Words

My computer is broken, so until it is fixed, here's the scoop:
You should be studying your root words. You should have an updated list given to you in class. If you don't, I will post one here TOMORROW. You can copy it here then. There are 20, and any of them will be on the Core  Test after spring break (CRT).

Spring break starts 4/2 (runs 4/5 until we return 4/12/2010).

You should have had your book today in class. You should also have had your Amazon.com review. You should have written about your book and attached the Amazon review to it.

If you have problems with your grade as it was posted on your report card, please also come talk to me.

Thanks!

English 10 TUESDAY

BY NEXT MONDAY: Choose a book.
1. Choose a book by going to Amazon.com.
2. Type in your favorite book (or a book you really like). Look at the 90+ books that Amazon recommends.
3. Print out the top most helpful reviews.
4. Bring the book with you next Monday. (Check it out from the library). It is NOT required that you purchase a copy of the book!!)

On Monday, we will discuss why you chose the book you did. I would prefer you not choose a book by a repeat author. Branch out! Choose something NEW!

Monday, Sonnets

Your HOMEWORK for today: Check your grades.  Then write a Shakespearean-type sonnet. You can get step by step directions here.

Today in class, we looked at this http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/writing-a-sonnet.html
and discussed Shakespeare's Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130. We'll also look at Billy Joel's "Always a Woman" next time.

YOUR SONNET IS DUE NEXT TIME!

Sophomore SEOP's

Today, we went to the Little Theater to get your information to register for school next year. If you do not have your information, get it from your counselor. Skyward goes live and you can register this week! You will be able to choose your teachers and classes which is so nice as a junior.

You are 12 weeks away from summer break, so don't let it slip by too quickly...

Honors English Wednesday

You should have received back some of your thought exercises, a rubric to evaluate them, and your final writing assignment for the term. You should finish writing your LAST :o) thought exercise for the term, and then you will do your own self-assessment for the term based on all your returned thought exercises!

You have your creative book assignments due NEXT TUESDAY!  Then, you have your last written assignment due NEXT THURSDAY and then we are done with the term! Yay! We'll have a day when we write sonnets (after the term is over), and we'll share our iambic pentameter poetry in a "coffeehouse" reading, and then we'll move on to preparing for the last tests of the year! We have one term to go!

We'll say farewell to Shakespeare and move on to... Cry, the Beloved Country in fourth quarter.

REMINDER: Your book report is due in one week.

Homework: Read the rest of Act IV.

Extra Credit: Next time after school there is a showing of Much Ado About Nothing in the Little Theater with Mr. Nagro's class.
