It's FRIDAY!!

Today we FINISHED the Importance of Being Earnest! It was WONDERFUL! We also finished the green study guide for Act 3. You should turn it in, with the writing for Act 3 next time.

Act 2 The Importance of Being Earnest

Today we watched the OLD version of Earnest and discussed costuming. Then we looked at the PINK Act 2 study guide (see THIS) and discussed the writing for Act 2 (due next time FOR HONORS students.) If you need the writing for Act ONE it is located HERE.


If you have NOT chosen your OUTSIDE reading book for 3rd term, it is LATE. You need to do so IMMEDIATELY.

You should have brought a book TODAY. (I assigned this December 13th!)

• Who wrote your book? When did they write it? How many pages does your book have?

• What is the MYSTERY we are trying to solve?
• Why did you choose this mystery? What appealed to you?

We finished Act 1 of The Importance of Being Earnest. You have HOMEWORK. Choose one of the WRITING PROMPTS. It is DUE NEXT TIME 1/25 B or 1/26 A.

Late work receives HALF CREDIT.

Act 1, Part 1: The Importance of Being Earnest

Today, we started The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. You should have gotten 2 study guides Side 1 Act 1, Writing Act 1, Plot Notes and Story Notes. 
     We read and discussed what EXPOSITION was. Defined HERE.
     We also discussed foil and binary opposition. The literary foil is meant to create a spotlight on the foibles of the characters. We discussed foibles.

     We listened to the audible.com version of the play. We didn't get to the "engagement" section. If you need to get caught up, you may want to look at this section at sparknotes.com

Friday the 13th

Today you created the IDEAL MAN....
Your group made a poster where you decided the qualities of the ideal man.

NEXT TIME: You should have your MYSTERY BOOK chosen!

We took the test in the writing lab.I think I have everything *except* your test graded (and any late work you have turned in TODAY).If you have ERRORS on your grade, COME TALK TO ME face-to-face. If you need to make up the test, you will receive a DIFFERENT prompt. Plan on taking it in the classroom with a PENCIL.

What do we expect from men today?
What is expected of a man in 2012?
What are the characteristics of a MANLY man?
What are the characteristics of a MACHO man?
What are the characteristics of a CARING man?
What are the characteristics of a good dad?
What about a good provider?
Are all of these things compatible?
Are all of these things REALISTIC?!


Create a POSTER that can hang in the hallway of the "IDEAL" man. Make it NICE and HALLWAY worthy... :)
