Act 2 The Importance of Being Earnest

Today we watched the OLD version of Earnest and discussed costuming. Then we looked at the PINK Act 2 study guide (see THIS) and discussed the writing for Act 2 (due next time FOR HONORS students.) If you need the writing for Act ONE it is located HERE.


If you have NOT chosen your OUTSIDE reading book for 3rd term, it is LATE. You need to do so IMMEDIATELY.

We finished Act 1 of The Importance of Being Earnest. You have HOMEWORK. Choose one of the WRITING PROMPTS. It is DUE NEXT TIME 1/25 B or 1/26 A.
Late work receives HALF CREDIT.

Act 1, Part 1: The Importance of Being Earnest


Today, we started The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. You should have gotten 2 study guides Side 1 Act 1, Writing Act 1, Plot Notes and Story Notes
     We read and discussed what EXPOSITION was. Defined HERE.
     We also discussed foil and binary opposition. The literary foil is meant to create a spotlight on the foibles of the characters. We discussed foibles.
     We listened to the audible.com version of the play. We didn't get to the "engagement" section. If you need to get caught up, you may want to look at this section at sparknotes.com

The Importance of Being Earnest

The Ideal Man...
What do we expect from men today?
What is expected of a man in 2012?
What are the characteristics of a MANLY man?
What are the characteristics of a MACHO man?
What are the characteristics of a CARING man?
What are the characteristics of a good dad?
What about a good provider?
Are all of these things compatible?
Are all of these things REALISTIC?!


Create a POSTER that can hang in the hallway of the "IDEAL" man. Make it NICE and HALLWAY worthy... :)
