Here are the poems:
- "Do not go gentle into that good night" by Dylan Thomas
- "Holy Sonnet X" by John Donne
- "The Starry Night" by Anne Sexton
- "To a Friend Who's Work has Come to Triumph" by Anne Sexton
- "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" by William Carlos Williams
- "Musee des Beaux Arts" by William Auden
You may choose one of these paintings:
- "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh
- "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" by Brueghel
- "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo Da Vinci
- "Girl with the Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer
Directions: Write a 2 paragraph thought exercise.
You will have ONE thesis statement (ex: In "Musee des Beaux Arts," Auden looks at suffering through the eyes of old master painters and regular people to show humanity in the circle of life."
Both paragraphs will talk about the circle of life and how humans deal with it.
However, one might deal with "regular people" (and use EVIDENCE/QUOTES) from the poem white the other paragraph might deal with old master painters (using evidence/quotes from the poem).
You *should* have a triangle paragraph paper, but if you don't, I'll include it here:
In your FIRST paragraph, instead of writing a conclusion, your sentence will transition from the first idea in the essay to the second idea in your essay. This is the *perfect* place for a compound, complex sentence.
Please also include these patterns (somewhere in your work):
Happy Christmas, and I hope the new year will be better than last!
