So... What's essential TODAY, Mrs. Phippen??

You should remember what essential questions are. What are essential questions? What does the word existential mean? Think: Exist.

We are talking about the disclosure document today. You don't have to bring it back signed, but you should refer back to it. It's located here. The classroom policies are in it. You need to be aware of them.
  • How are papers graded?
  • What does Mrs. Phippen expect when you turn something in?
  • How fast will it be returned?
We'll review your HOMEWORK (Letter to Me) which is DUE NEXT TIME
We're also talking note taking today, and it's not your typical "write it somewhere" I hope I can come up with this later notes. We'll be discussing Cornell Notes (located here). Why do these matter? They are one way to take great notes. This is a method they use at Cornell University, and we're going to look at why they work.

Choosing a book/Reading Expectations... choose a book on a high school reading level (we'll look at Amazon.com and Accelerated Reader today). We'll talk MORE about this in days to come. You need a book with at least 300 pages, and you'll want a book that appeals to you. You can NOT have read it before. It MUST be fiction. Your book is due by THURSDAY, September 8th (A) day or FRIDAY September 9th (B) day.

What did we do in HONORS English today, Mrs. Phippen?

We discussed your prior English experience...
What makes an honors student? Why did you take honors English? (See the photo to remind you about what the class discussed)

What is an existential question? Where are we going in this class? We talked about why that mattered...

Disclosure Documents You do NOT have a disclosure document to sign, but because you were in class, you were here for the discussion. You know what is in the document. Please refer to it often.
Your homework is to write a letter to yourself. See the directions here.

    Just can't wait!

You can't imagine how excited I am for this year to start! I'm thrilled with all the planning that takes place and all the fun that goes in to every lesson. I eat, drink, sleep, and giggle my job, and that's the truth. I just *adore* what I do. I think it's the greatest job ever.
I've spent all summer long getting things ready for this year, and I think we're going to have the best time... I can't hardly wait. (Of course, most teachers I know are hardly sleeping at this point in their year!) If you're reading this, do click around. Get to know the site. See what there is. Stop and see the flamingos.
You're in for an adventure. We're in it together, actually. You'll find out rather quickly that I'm more than a bit quirky:
    I love to read
    I'm super perky
    I love Doctor Who
I love the color pink, the artist P!nk, and pink flamingos
I really am all the things you have heard about me...
And I love my job. I really, really do.
Reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We're going to do it all.
It's going to be a brilliant year.
